Because in war, intentions do not matter. What matters is who won and who created history.

What I observed was that every day, Jordan would be at the office at 6AM with a social media post up by 9AM. He didn’t particularly like social media or talking in public, but he knew it generated results: views that resulted in signups for his job board turned into hires at our startups.. So now he has 100K+ followers and tens of thousands of people on his newsletter.

It’s genuinely nice to see people, but it feels like certain relationships can be confined to like the four walls of a club or of like a nightlife space
Are we caught in a culture of never-ending catch-ups? | Dazed
There’s an element of catch-up culture that feeds into heteronormative ideas around the nuclear family: the idea that we should be living lives with partners, and then reporting back to our friends about it.
Are we caught in a culture of never-ending catch-ups? | Dazed
Your life is only ever since your last catch-up, and you aren’t talking about the bigger things in life, like your future, or the menial day-to-day.

Her research shows that participants who wrote down their goals, defined their action plan, and provided weekly progress updates to a friend were 33 percent more likely to achieve their goals than those who did not take these actions.

I also don’t think about my jobs as work. I think of them as structured ways to explore my interests.

“I don’t know,” is one of the most powerful things you can say.

Walking conversations are the best activity in the world. Invite an old or new friend, grab coffee (or tea), and take a long walk. You’ll get exercise and catch up.

Find the soundtrack to your life—a song that follows you wherever you go—driving, traveling, at a coffee shop.

Since running is so solitary, it’s easy to get in your own head.

One other strange consequence to making a lot of new friends is that you can start to become attached to the idea of being “a popular person”, which then makes certain situations feel more threatening.
How to make a lot of friends - by Kasra - Bits of Wonder
Having a large social network can create more noise in your life, and can serve as a distraction from work you care about doing. Also, if you’re not careful, it might hinder your ability to build depth in your friendships.
How to make a lot of friends - by Kasra - Bits of Wonder
At the beginning I was initiating almost every one of my social encounters, but over time the amount of active organizational effort I had to put in to have a social life decreased, and in some stretches it has been literally zero.

I think making the written note is crucial because it helps to create a vivid juxtaposition in your mind between (1) how uncomfortable you felt at the moment you did the activity, and (2) how totally unimportant it feels when you’re looking back at the note a week later.

Most things lose their lustre, so time is one factor.
The Idea That Won't Go Away - by Anu Atluru
I think the idea that won’t go away — that’s not always the top idea in your mind but that you can’t seem to let go of — is far better. The more you keep polishing it over time, the more steady energy and optimism it can bring to you.

I want to be less avoidant, I want to be more equanimous, and I want to stop cringing at myself and others (to be cringe is to be free, etc.).

Wait, I know you, why don’t you write anymore?; I say I don’t know, I got busy, but keep thinking about the comment. I suppose I never thought that anyone would notice.

People call this running through it—it meaning the pain, dehydration, mental blocks, whatever—and I wish my other selves could hear the same. Usually, I see too much in black and white. If you don’t anticipate a bounce-back, you’re bound to quit too soon. I say one wrong thing and think the friendship is over; I cook one messy meal and I’ll never host again.

That’s the human difference—not the final output, but the spark of creation. The fact that you start bad and get good later, the work of figuring out where you’re going while still on the way there.

Robots have been better than humans at chess, Jeopardy!, and lifting heavy objects for a long time now, but that doesn’t supplant our interest in playing ourselves.

Never spend time on something I’d end up regretting if it didn’t lead to the outcome I hoped for.

It’s about the journey, not the destination. The view is always prettiest after a backbreaking hike; the meal tastes better when you’ve prepared it yourself. I tend to get restless when things are easy. Have I ever accomplished anything effortlessly that I’ve really, truly liked? Is an important part of the process feeling like I might die along the way?

I’ll never build a habit that I only squeeze into my “leftover time.”

The dirty secret of the creator economy is that there’s no such thing as overnight success, and when there is, it often goes away just as fast.
🌻 tryhard - by Jasmine Sun - half-baked futures
The ones who succeed are often simply the ones who try harder than everybody else. They wake up in the wee hours to write before their first meeting of the day; they turn down social invitations to practice their craft. They kill their darlings; they do the reading; none of this sounds easy because it’s not.

Play—irrational striving, disposable ends, false obstacles constructed for the sake of the struggle—this is what makes us human after all.

Once you have an idea, you tend to notice every similar idea out there (like when you buy a car and you notice every similar car on the road).

New ideas are the proverbial hot girl or guy at the supermarket, while old ideas are the trusted friend with romantic potential.

Even if you don’t personally mind sleeping late, you offload the costs onto people around you, either by not being present or worrying them. At the very least, be healthy for them.

I never want to be in places where people don’t tell me when I’m being stupid. That kind of self-delusion rots the core. This is also what makes certain friendships feel like family.

You have to believe that the best place to be, is where you currently are. At a party, you can either peek through shoulders, trying to shimmy into an existing conversation, or you can plant your feet, get to know the people around you, and trust that they are also awesome and interesting.

When the only constant is change, working in an industry like technology can be difficult (crypto, exponentially so). The highs are incredibly high and the lows are painfully low. Sometimes you forget why you started, or you try to numb the present in pursuit of reaching the future. We make progress when we set ambitious goals and stick to them, and we should continue to do so. But we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that there is beauty in the practice of the thing.

A24’s differentiated strategy starts with its distinctive culture. In many respects, it’s a firm inspired by Silicon Valley rather than Hollywood. “We’ve been very influenced by how technology companies think about the world,”

producers bring a creative project to life. They are manager and orchestrator, coordinating between stakeholders from pre-production through to a film’s release. In addition to being the party that finds a script and secures financing, they help hire behind-the-camera talent, keep the shooting process on the rails, play a role in editing, and position the project to become a box office hit

We don’t do A/B tests. We validate ideas and assumptions that are driven by taste and opinions, rather than the other way around where tests drive decisions. There is no specific engagement or other number we look at. We beta test, see the feedback, iterate, and eventually we have the conviction that the change or feature is as good as it can be at this point and we should release it to see how it works at scale.
