Effort is not embarrassing I started posting and writing a lot more this year. At first I thought it was really cringe, but as soon as I embraced it I felt a lot more free. As soon as I relaxed into it I saw effort pay off.

Treat relationships like a single player game that you win at by you putting in the effort. It’s your responsibility to reach out. To make plans. To send people memes and funny tiktoks. To introduce friends to each other. To refer your friends to relevant opportunities. To have their best interests at heart.
An extremely opinionated guide on making friends for people who are exactly like me
I focus on learning a lot about a person the first time I meet them because I primarily think about whether I like the person, not whether they like me. I sort of default to thinking I can make anyone I like like me and if I can’t we probably wouldn’t be friends anyway.

my first encounter isn’t necessarily the first time I’ve made an impression on/had an impression formed on me by the person I’m meeting. It’s easier to bond during the first meet if both of you already have some positive context on each other before.

Align your identity with your goals, and don’t tie a number to it. Be proud of being someone who worked really hard to understand the concepts on the exam, even if your grade suffered from dumb mistakes.
Why I do what I do | Jocelyne Murphy
What you spend time on signals to the world what you care about. If you’re not being true to yourself, your outward persona will keep attracting opportunities you’re not that psyched about.

Another powerful motivator is the desire to do, or know, things you're not supposed to. Closely related is the desire to do something audacious. Sixteen year olds aren't supposed to write novels. So if you try, anything you achieve is on the plus side of the ledger; if you fail utterly, you're doing no worse than expectations.

So the way to find great questions is not to search for them — not to wander about thinking, what great discovery shall I make? You can't answer that; if you could, you'd have made it.
What You'll Wish You'd Known
People who do great things look at the same world everyone else does, but notice some odd detail that's compellingly mysterious.

What I mean by getting something done is learning how to write well, or how to program computers, or what life was really like in preindustrial societies, or how to draw the human face from life.

Making a living is only a small part of it. Far more important is to take intellectual responsibility for oneself.
