. This is because the transactions users perform in DeFi applications are state-neutral transactions, meaning they simply modify existing balances rather than append new data to the state. T
Web3 Will Not Be Built on Smart Contracts • DeSo (Decentralized Social) BlockchainThe difference is that with social applications, all transactions are state-augmenting rather than state-neutral, as is the case with DeFi. With social apps, instead of just having to keep a few account balances in your state, you need to be able to store an indefinite amount of data.
Web3 Will Not Be Built on Smart Contracts • DeSo (Decentralized Social) BlockchainToday, all general-purpose blockchains on the market were built to power what we call finite state applications. These are applications where the amount of data or state that you have to keep on-hand for each user is, well, finite.
Web3 Will Not Be Built on Smart Contracts • DeSo (Decentralized Social) BlockchainSo, another term for “Big Data” should be “Big History.” All data is a record of past events, sometimes the immediate past, sometimes the past of months or years ago, sometimes (in the case of Google Books or the Digital Michelangelo project) the past of decades or centuries ago. After all, what’s another word for data storage in a computer? Memory. Memory, as in the sense of human memory, and as in the sense of history.

Net Promoter Score Considered Harmful (and What UX Professionals Can Do About It) — UX Articles by UIEGranny’s Rule, to be specific, is the requirement that children eat their carrots before they get dessert. And the business version requires that executives force themselves daily to first do their unpleasant and necessary tasks before rewarding themselves by proceeding to their pleasant tasks.
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerWe should also heed the general lesson implicit in the injunction of Ben Franklin in Poor Richard’s Almanack: “If you would persuade, appeal to interest and not to reason.”
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerMan’s—often wrong but generally useful— psychological tendencies are quite numerous and quite different. The natural consequence of this profusion of tendencies is the grand general principle of social psychology: cognition is ordinarily situation-dependent so that different situations often cause different conclusions, even when the same person is thinking in the same general subject area.
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerOne such outcome is caused by a quantum effect in human perception. If stimulus is kept below a certain level, it does not get through.
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerAnd even when perception does get through to man’s brain, it is often misweighted, because what is registered in perception is in shockingness of apparent contrast, not the standard scientific units that make possible science and good engineering.
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerNaturally, the simple ant behavior system has extreme limitations because of its limited nerve- system repertoire. For instance, one type of ant, when it smells a pheromone given off by a dead ant’s body in the hive, immediately responds by cooperating with other ants in carrying the dead body out of the hive. And Harvard’s great E.O. Wilson performed one of the best psychology experiments ever done when he painted dead-ant pheromone on a live ant. Quite naturally, the other ants dragged this useful live ant out of the hive even though it kicked and otherwise protested throughout the entire pr…
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerAnd I found that introductory psychology texts, by and large, didn’t deal appropriately with a fundamental issue: Psychological tendencies tend to be both numerous and inseparably intertwined, now and forever, as they interplay in life.
Psychology of Human Misjudgment (Transcript) by Charlie MungerOur circumstance is everything we were born into and everything we are surrounded by: the time period, country, family, culture, etc., and our sense of “I” helps us make sense of how we fit into all this. We are a dynamic project that has to be completed in view of the world, and to the extent that we deal with it, we make it ours. This can be done by taking responsibility for who we are at our core and by the circumstance in which we were born into, acknowledging our limitations and the freedom we have as individuals who are always projecting towards a goal.
Mass Society – A Warning to The World – Eternalised“I am I and my circumstance, and if I do not save it, I do not save myself.” Ortega y Gasset, Meditations on Quixote
Mass Society – A Warning to The World – Eternalised“I wish that on my grave might be put “the individual.” Journals of Kierkegaard, May 14, 1847
Mass Society – A Warning to The World – EternalisedThe final characteristic of the absurd hero is “passion,” as described by Camus. This passion represents the absurd hero’s dedication to the present. If man has become the hero of the absurd, he has abandoned hope and purpose. Therefore, the future does not interest him.
The Absurd Hero in Camus and Godard | The Stanford Freedom ProjectThe absurd hero embraces the struggle and the contradiction of living without purpose.
The Absurd Hero in Camus and Godard | The Stanford Freedom ProjectThe first characteristic of the absurd hero is to recognize the absurd. The second characteristic of the absurd hero is that he rejects suicide.
The Absurd Hero in Camus and Godard | The Stanford Freedom ProjectThus, both Sisyphus and humanity face the absurd. At this instance, man can either accept the only truth—which is the lack thereof—or he can perform “bad faith” defined by Sartre as “falsehood” and “lying to himself” (Being and Nothingness 329). Most men choose bad faith. However, Sisyphus chooses to accept the absurd thereby transcending the absurd prison.
