the turbines that convert it into power are hard to make, hard to ramp, and largely already spoken for.

Direct Current Data Centers – Casey Handmer's blogPerhaps there’s a brief window in a person’s life where he has the intelligence, curiosity, and freedom of youth but also the skills and knowledge of age.
The mystery of the miracle yearI still think that repetition that will save us when all else turns to dust.
bookbear expressAfter all, when I say that I know something is worth pursuing, I’m really just talking about instinct and intuition.
bookbear expressand yet some days I’m like, jesus, I really don’t want to. I don’t know where this is going and I don’t know if it’s any good. But then we return to the point above: if I really claim to love writing, I have to stay meaningfully engaged with it. I have to choose to do one small thing again and again, instead of the thousands of other things I could be doing.
bookbear expressOne of my favorite lines about writing is Isabel Allende’s“Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up, too.” Which I read as: prioritize engagement over mood, convenience, everything.
bookbear expressBut I think real love involves full acceptance of someone or something through its entire lifecycle.
bookbear expressWhen I’m overwhelmed by the range of possibilities, I try to remember that all I really have to do is to commit to one thing. You can get a million small things wrong, but as long as you get one meaningful thing right, you’ll be okay. But getting something right means staying engaged with it again and again over a long period of time.
bookbear expressOf course my observations will be flawed—all individual perspectives are partial and distorted—but the only way I can gain autonomy is to write from my incomplete point of view. Put like that, autonomy comes from trust in the self, in subjective vision. It’s a rejection that the answer lies in any narrative framework
bookbear expressTo write in a real voice, an alive voice, I have to trust my own eyes, what I see before I start to think.
bookbear expressI always make the mistake, though, in thinking that I'm going to read my way to the answer. It’s only through my habitual disappointment with the philosophers that I am reminded that there are other experiences that have to happen in order for us to really know anything.
bookbear expressCreativity is inherently anti-authoritarian. As in: to be successfully creative, you have to shed the part of yourself that desperately wants reassurance. It’s only then that you can escape cliche and escape paradigmatic thinking.
bookbear expressSome people have a lot farther to go from where they begin to get where they want to be—a long way up the mountain, and that is how it has been for me. I don’t feel I am getting older; I feel I am getting closer.
bookbear expressTo me that means that I could tell you one thing that contains everything, and I could tell you everything and it could still mean nothing.
