Emmanuel Todd is not well known in the English speaking world. He surfaced in 1976 when in The Final Fall: an Essay on the Decomposition of the Soviet Sphere he predicted the coming Soviet collapse on the basis of an unprecedented rise in the infant mortality rate between 1970 and 1974. In later work, he would outline a radical vision of anthropological particularism orthogonal to the traditional racialism.
