A few weeks ago I shared my axis of which data center concerns I think are most real and fake: I’ve already covered water use, water poisoning, and infrasounds. There’s one fake issue left to address: land use. Like biographies use their subject as a prism for the world around them, I use data centers as a prism for much larger but invisible environmental problems, hidden by our tendencies toward populism and localism that data centers offend.
