When I get asked about the most painful experience I’ve had, I keep thinking about Angeles Crest 100. It was my first ultra trail run, and I really did not know shit. When you combine inexperience in trail running with high elevation, peak heat, bone-dry air of LA’s trails, a messed up nutrition plan, and a raw, thrashing throat, you got my experience. Countless times I thought I would not be able to make it to the next aid station, or for sure I would stop and sit on the side of the trail. Several times my mind already quit.
