T he key was to make everyone as indebted to you as possible. That’s why I made the dumplings for my Super Smash Sundays from scratch and made sure my guests always saw me folding them by hand. The user journey looked like this: you take off your shoes and put on the pair of animal-themed house slippers I’ve selected for you, grab a glass of home-brewed mugicha from the kitchen, choose your favorite color GameCube controller from the bin, then find your tourney partner in the living room based on whoever had your matching pair of slippers. Between games, you’d mingle with the other guests; even though you’ve always considered yourself an introvert, the conversation would flow easily because I would have made sure you’d have at least three mutual friends in the room. You’d feel like you already knew everyone, that this is where you belong. If it was your first time, I’d take a flattering Polaroid of you and ask you to sign it, then add it to my community wall. Every thirty minutes or so
