Four years ago, I started teaching a course on Southeast Asia. At a place like MIT where the students are naturally oriented toward very technical subjects, the course did not attract a lot of students. In the first year it was offered, the size was small and half of the enrollment came from Harvard (mostly from Harvard Kennedy School). The world has changed (or I have become a better teacher).
