I wanted to get to know more different types of people, because I thought it would help me understand the world. I was also slightly traumatized from having seen firsthand the negative impacts of completely immersing oneself in the math community. I had seen both sides -- the extreme curiosity and love for learning, and the narrow-mindedness that sometimes also resulted from it. And so, for my entire first year of college, I surrounded myself
