X just open-sourced their “For You” recommendation algorithm. Yeah, I just saw it—and it’s genuinely exciting. It’s really cool to see Rust being used at scale in production by a top-tier company like X. What makes this even more interesting is that this same algorithm’s codebase previously existed in around five different languages as of December 2025, before a large portion of it was rewritten in Rust. That’s a very welcome development. I don’t think many people even knew that X was running Rust in production at this level. This feels like one of the first times that’s become public knowledge and it says a lot about where Rust is headed for large, performance-critical systems. Open-sourcing something this core is a big move. Definitely worth digging into the repo. The repo: https://lnkd.in/dwRTkZt8 | 25 comments on LinkedIn
