Big Law is an up-or-out system, which means that only a limited number of spots exist at the end of the road that is promotion to partner, and not everyone who starts with you will make it there. Setting aside whatever substantive area of law interests you, the practice group you choose is going to make or break your experience—for reasons that have very little to do with the law itself.
