Elam Day-Friedland | PhD Student, MIT
I am an incoming PhD student at MIT in the FLAME lab working with Rachit Nigam, graciously supported by MIT’s Presidential Graduate Fellowship Award and NSF’s GRFP. I am interested in finding composable abstractions for designing efficient hardware. I received my BA in Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 2025, where I worked under Profs. Vladimir Stojanovic and Borivoje Nikolic as an undergraduate researcher. During my undergrad, I worked on tapeouts in the Intel 16nm, GlobalFoundries 45SPCLO, and Skywater 130nm processes. I also ran two student-run courses (DeCals) as well as Berkeley’s IEEE Student Branch I like salsa dancing, cooking, and trying to understand how things work. I’ve also been having fun taking pictures- check out my gallery! Graduated from UC Berkeley and received the Warren Y. Dere Design Award. Presented Fast-Tuning CMOS Microring Filters for DWDM Links with Optical Circuit Switching at CLEO 2025. Awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Committed to MIT’s PhD
