A crucial aspect of both human and animal intelligence is our internal model of the world. We use this model to predict how our actions will affect our environment, anticipate future events, and plan complex sequences of actions to achieve goals. Most current machine learning research focuses on models that passively understand data, like image classifiers or captioning models.
