The stablecoin was initially launched on October 23, 2018, via a joint venture between Coinbase and Circle called the Centre Consortium. Circle, founded in 2013, began with consumer Bitcoin payment products. Since then, the company has launched and pivoted multiple times (including ventures like Poloniex and "Blockchain not Bitcoin") until they sold their digital asset trading platform in 2020 and shut down their original Circle Pay app in 2019 to focus solely on USDC.…
