Reading Group on TCS Fall 2025
Welcome to our reading group exploring Theoretical Computer Science (TCS) in all its breadth. Everyone is invited: students and faculty from any department (and visitors from outside UIUC are welcome, too). TCS has deep ties to Math, ECE, Physics, and many other areas. If you would like to give a talk, please let the organizers know. If you are a student interested in helping lead and organize the group, please reach out to Fernando. A tentative schedule with speakers is given below. Please note that this is under construction. We would study one of most celebrated topics in Quantum Information: quantum state tomography. In this problem, given quantum access to an unknown quantum state, the goal is to produce an estimate of that state under certain distance measure. The idea for the optimal learning algorithm (under frobenius norm) was firstly proposed by O'Donnell and Wright [OW15] and later generalized by Haah, Harrow, Ji, Wu and Yu [HHJWW15], which exploits the symmetries among i.i.
