My mom often asks me: “how do you find your childhood? do you think we did a good job of being parents?” I usually sit on questions like these for weeks before I find the words to string together, but this one in particular took slightly longer. It also made me realize that parents rarely get to see the world through their children’s eyes. We grow up a generation apart, with different norms and different tools shaping who we become.
