I often think this is why so many people have not just left the church, which in many ways is very understandable, but have decided that to believe in God is for the weak or desperate. In wealthier countries, you see more atheism. Many feel they don't need God. I believe it's also largely because churches have failed to teach a mature concept of God, or that we can develop a deep and transforming relationship with our God, who loves us beyond measure. I'm glad he points out the very real negative of the behemoth of McDonald's. And also the reality that many people don't seem to have a good alternative meeting place.
