I live in a 3BD2B with my two roommates in a small building (3 units). No washing machine or dishwasher, and we all work outside of the home. Our lease stipulates that we pay all utilities, including water and heat. I pay our other utilities directly but our landlord asks that we send him $100 every month with rent for water. He doesn't send me a bill or statement from the water company. I've never paid for water in NYC so I don't know if this is a reasonable cost or not. Our landlord has been a little shady before (tried to charge an illegally high application fee, often unresponsive when we have problems) so I wanted to ask if everything sounds legal and get an idea of what other people pay for water. DEP doesnt ever go after tenants for water bills. We always hold the owner accountable for bills. That being said, if they have some sort of contract with you, they can probably do something with that legally. Dont know about that part myself. DEP charges $11.13 per 1 hundred cubic feet of water as of 7/1/22 (This is water and sewer together). Thats roughly 748 gallons of water.
