2 years, tatuś. For over a year since my father’s passing, my anxiety was my natural alarm clock. I would be jolted awake daily by the beating of my own heart as soon as I had managed to fall asleep. Dreams became my nightmares. As soon as I closed my eyes, I could see bits and pieces of his face— the image of his sunken, sickly eyes and chapped lips made my body tense with fear. I immediately envisioned the hospital rooms where we spent hours waiting for his chemotherapy treatments. Seconds later, my brain would jump to the day of his funeral.
