Predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis INTRODUCTION Approximately 15 to 25 percent of all patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) develop moderately severe or severe AP. Between 1988 and 2003, mortality from AP decreased from 12 percent to 2 percent, according to a large epidemiologic study from the United States [1].
