Comment by Chi Nguyen - Kind of besides the main point, but: I always find it a bit awkward to read these because I’m not sure whether to respond. Is responding good or bad for group epistemics? Laying out lots of evidence and considerations to convince people of my real motivations is kind of weird and not clearly productive. I’m happy to do it though if there are good arguments that it seems generally useful to have a norm where people respond to this kind of speculation. (Obviously, in cases where the accused reflects and realises that the speculation is in fact correct, it’s useful for them to make this known, but what about other cases?)
