My Experience with ACL Reconstruction Surgery and Recovery : r/bjj
I wrote this cathartically to get some thoughts and emotions out. Hopefully someone can get something out of it. Maybe no one reads it cause it is self-indulgently long af. Either way here is a writeup of my experience going through ACL surgery and recovery thus far. I am currently going through the rehab of ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair. I tore my ACL during a roll all the way back in June of 2022 and had the surgery on Dec 13th of 2022. I am currently ~ 12 weeks out from my surgery. My experience has had a huge impact on me, how I view training, the discussion of longevity and the overall experience of being a lifelong martial artist. Being taken away from something I love has had such an impact on my life that I thought I needed to write something that someone could learn from. I will focus on pre-injury training and mindset.
