This is the slow season. I’m always surprised by its arrival every year: the sky dark by 5 PM, all my friends home for the holidays. I wrap myself in blankets, read everything I haven’t gotten around to, drink mulled cider, review the progress of the year. This is the season I try to reconcile myself to everything, try and sometimes fail. A lot happened this year, much of it good. The main events: I moved coasts. I became an American citizen. I lived on my own for the very first time. I felt more loved and seen this year by the important people in my life than ever before. The details: I found my favorite grocery story. I decorated an apartment all on my own and I’m very happy with it. I found a yoga studio I loved. I started cooking regularly. I was disappointed, and elated, and relieved.
