I’ll never forget the day I learned we get a dopamine hit from negative stimulus. So, after a burst of anger, there’s a “post-tirade glow,” making anger addictive. Your neurochemical response literally incentivizes more anger. This is so wise and true. It’s why I gave up Twitter - I realised I was in the habit of getting enraged first thing each morning, and then going hunting for more enraging things. It felt so righteous, but it was also warping the way I saw the world. I now try to keep my rage for… Perhaps the addiction of our time that is killing more people than any drugs is anger. I don’t doubt there’s truth in this. Please stop sharing your anger issues publicly. Good to learn to manage these in the peace and quiet of your own house. Plenty of tone policing experts in Sutton, who may give you a hand with this tricky skill.
