In our ten-month partnership with the Adaline team, we worked together to rearchitect how prompt engineering tools function and feel. From the structure of the interface to the details of interaction and visual density, our focus was on supporting the highly iterative, often nonlinear nature of building with language models. This case study shares the principles and practices that emerged from working with users and the tangible artifacts that followed. (More on our approaches with type and colour coming soon.) Built for those who think in both language and logic, Adaline enables cross-functional teams to develop and deploy LLM-powered applications, from rapid prompt iteration to production-scale monitoring. While early traction had validated its potential as a prototype, growing UX debt was starting to get in the way of broader adoption.
