First, because I don't believe there to be a operative, formal definition of taste. If you ask a painter what taste is, their answer is bound to be wildly different than that of your hallmark silicon valley tech bro. The Taste that design twitter is fixated on, generalized, seems to be the ability to distinguish well-designed things from poorly-designed things (intentionally vague definition chosen here). Essentially, it is a measure of curating ability. But what does well-designed mean? Is it the quality of the material? For interface, is it the symmetry, the consistency, the perceived harmony of the colors? Sure, somewhat. But take away the fundamental design principles and human nature, and you are still left with a wide variety of options. Papyrus used to be one of the most popular fonts, and now using it is basically blasphemy. Why? Who decided that? I may not know for sure, but surely those at the "forefront of innovation" -- those in power-- who grew bored of the status quo. Wha
