Twenty-one days into this so-called new year and I am feeling very clear about myself, which is a relief. Things were very muddy last year, I had no idea what the hell was going on from day to day except that that there was so so much despair. And while the despair itself hasn’t left me (it never will, not in a world like this) the container with which I hold the despair (my heart) has become wider, deeper. I am expanding my capacity for things because I must, because that is the only way that I can do the work I am here to do. I’m writing this on my first Sunday at home since last year. I’ve been traveling for three weeks, first to New Orleans to visit with my friend Akwaeke and then to LA where I got to celebrate my dear Fariha’s birthday and do some work. I’m only home for a few days before I’m off again. It’s not like me to travel this much.
