I’ve been married to Brian for a bit over a year now. I could wait for a more socially-acceptable milestone to write thoughts and reflections on marriage (say over 5 or 10 years, or after children etc), but I don’t think my answers would really change. I married when I was 20, and that isn’t considered standard in most major cities in the U.S. Modern standards don’t hold much weight for me, and certainly, nothing is more powerful than human conviction. A friend once told me the ‘common wisdom’ is to wait until your late twenties or thirties to marry. It’s a good question. Firstly, I don’t think common wisdom applies all that much to people like me that see themselves as uncommon and contain a high degree of agency. But also, if it doesn’t fit your life, don’t follow it! Why wait if you’ve already found the love of your life and you know where you’re going? I don’t see any reason to heed instructions from a vague body of “generic advice” if I have good reasons for doing what I do. If I
