I was sixteen when I saw Godard’s Nouvelle Vague feature film Une femme est une femme. Despite its cult following, the movie didn’t leave much of an impression on me, save for the musical number performed by Anna Karina’s character Angela in one of the first scenes. As she strips to a bare-bones piano accompaniment, the young woman sways her hips and mischievously coos:
