Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage: Acute treatment and prognosis - UpToDate

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the second most common cause of stroke, following ischemic stroke, but accounts for a disproportionate amount of cerebrovascular mortality and morbidity. The goals of initial treatment include preventing hemorrhage expansion, monitoring for and managing elevated intracranial pressure, and managing other neurologic and medical complications (table 1). The acute treatment and prognosis of spontaneous (atraumatic) intracerebral hemorrhage will be reviewed here.
