Israel secretly sold Iran 250 spare tires for American-built F-4 fighters in October to help Iran in its war with Iraq, Carter Administration officials and diplomatic sources said today. They said, however, that the Israelis delayed any further military deals with Iran at the request of the United States, which was trying to gain the release of its hostages. The Carter officials and diplomatic sources familiar with the Israeli-American discussions last year said that the Israelis yielded to American pressure not to continue their military relationship with Iran until the hostages were freed. It is assumed by Reagan Administration officials that the Israelis have resumed secret sales to Iran, but no details were available.
