I first experienced Chia Amisola’s poetry last year at panke.gallery in Berlin, where they performed a selection of websites, at one point reading through a series of pop-up windows that audience members were invited to help populate with their phones. A beautiful meditation on love, self-preservation, and online intimacy, these durational pieces were at once improvised and programmed, with Amisola also providing a live, ambient soundtrack via a mixer beside their computer. I was struck by the formal inventiveness and originality of the performance; it felt almost like a prayer or incantation, albeit a networked one. Since then, I’ve been closely following Amisola’s work and have noticed it garnering a lot of interest among people who are particularly invested in the web as a place of possibility and connection.
