I am a third year PhD student in computer science in the HCI Group at Stanford University, advised by Michael Bernstein. Previously, I attended Harvey Mudd College, where I earned a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics and concentrated in literature. My research areas fall broadly within human-computer interaction (HCI) and social computing. I combine empirical work and system design/building to critique and reimagine the online spaces that mediate our social interactions. In general, I care about understanding how to create online spaces with better social and psychological outcomes. Currently, I’m thinking about: participatory online communities, folk theories/mental models/what it means to understand a system, and how to handle the fact that social media has a lot of people and a lot of content, neither of which people are good at handling at scale.
