AYMAR EMBURY, ARCHITECT, DEAD; Designer of Many Buildings and Bridges Here Was 86 - The New York Times
Aymar Embury 2d, an architect whose designs had a major impact on the skyline and waterway appurtenances of New York and on residential areas in its suburbs, died yesterday in Southampton (L. I.) Hospital after a long illness. He was 86 years old and lived in East Hampton and at 430 East 57th Street here. Mr. Embury, a designer of the Triboro, the Henry Hudson and the Whitestone Bridges, retired about 10 years ago from active practice of his profession but had continued as a consultant to his firm here, now headed by his son, Edward Coe Embury. In a career that began with the opening of this century, Mr. Embury was long an architectural consultant to the city's Department of Parks, and at the behest of Robert Moses he created or collaborated in the plans for many civic structures. Mr. Embury, on occasion, showed little patience with modernists.
