In particular, the age of Generative AI, and the amorphous, shape-shifting forms of creativity it has brought to art and industry. It has not been indivisive. Some decry its arrival. Bemoaning the murky copyright questions and invoking talk of the death of the artist. Others have gotten excited, rejoicing in the new possibility. This post is about the latter. Amsterdam-based innovation studio MODEM.WORKS tasked image generation software DALL-E2 with turning poetry into visual artworks. Namely, the celebrated suite of 17th century Japanese Haikus by Matsuo Basho. The results are, I think, stunning. The machine must have a heart, to create such art.
