If time is the 4th dimension, doesn't it mean we can perceive the 4th dimension since time isn't new to us? : r/AskPhysics
I think usually when people say we can't perceive 4th dimension, they mean spatial. Time is a 4th dimension but its properties are fundamentally different than spatial dimensions. We don’t perceive time, we experience it. If we were able to “see” the 4th dimension (time), you be able to see matter in all forms it has been and ever will be. Hard to comprehend, but we only perceive the present, and are fully controlled by time otherwise. Imagine if the dimension of time was spatial and you could see it: You could look both forward and backward in time, able to perceive all prior, current, and future states of matter and energy simply by "looking in a different direction". Hell, if you did it with your eyes, you would have temporal depth perception, able to see not only a single instant but a little before and after it as well. We, unfortunately, are not really 4-dimensional beings. Our perceptions are of the "present" (which is, in fact, the very recent past as our nerve impulses and cog
