Comments - Are we using psychedelic plants, or are they using us?

1. Michael Pollan suggests that with psilocybin mushrooms, "we have been the vector of their spread around the world." Does anyone know if there is evidence for this? I took a brief look at the info that's out there, and it looks unlikely to me that human beings are responsible for the distribution of psilocybin mushrooms around the world. Wikipedia has a map of their distribution (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybin_mushroom#/media/File:Pschoactive_Psilocybe_distribution.png), and it looks to me like they are clustered in biomes/ecological areas/climates that are conducive to their growth and flourishing. I don't see patterns of distribution that map with human activity (unlike with say, cannabis), although in the Americas there are some patterns that may suggest human-driven dispersal. It looks like what happened in the Americas is that people migrated over from Asia, discovered psychedelic mushrooms in the new continent, and began using (and potentially spreading the spores of)
