Authorable format / John Otander

One of the key motivators for me creating MDX is that I desperately needed a way to write long-form content while mixing in a few components. By this point, over the previous couple of years, I had worked on projects that needed a Markdown++ format that went a bit further than Markdown. When it comes to long-form content, particularly when the authors are technical, I think we can all agree that Markdown is the best format for authoring. Its syntax is simple and stays out of the way of your content. It's natural. Raw Markdown is understandable without a rendering step, too, much moreso than HTML for the layperson. It's authorable. What I mean by authorable is that it's a format that can be naturally written in by all members of a cross-functional team after some learning - from engineering to marketing.
