How to make friends and keep them
As a child, you’re never really told how to make a friend. It’s expected that you learn the ropes on your own. While we are all taught about proper morals and behaviors, I never felt like teachers related it to friendships so we could apply the lessons learned. We had to learn the ropes on our own. So we just learn by witnessing. You observe others- role models, friends, and family. You witness what makes someone laugh and what makes someone cry. You think to yourself “I should probably avoid this action if it makes another person hurt”. Slowly the compass that one uses to navigate the world begins to take shape. Over the years, I’ve come to see patterns in the ways to make and keep friends. I’ve loved friends and I’ve hurt them as well. I’ve also gone through periods of neglecting my friendships and it’s come back to bite me differently. I’ll always be extremely grateful for the old friends I have and the new friends I meet down the road. Friends are one of the most important aspects
