First impressions matter. The very first context which you interact, or are understood, forms a quite sticky impression, a lens through which all future interactions are interpreted. Sometimes, the rest of your relationship, if it gets to a wrong start, is spent overcoming that initial impression. Most times, it never changes at all. If you know someone to be socially adept, or pretty, eye contact and a compliment might be positive, well-calibrated, flirtatious? If you're wary for that same person because they're creepy, well, human resources? Cue the meme. The rationalists like to call this one trapped priors.
