What's the current view on "Complex Systems"? : r/math
This subreddit is for discussion of mathematics. All posts and comments should be directly related to mathematics, including topics related to the practice, profession and community of mathematics. As I understand it, Complex Systems is sort of a catch-all field that means something like "The application of Dynamical Systems to trendy topics", but the definition is very, very fuzzy. Sometimes, the work I find is an interesting example of mathematical modelling, sometimes it's a means of dressing up networks in a way to make the benign seem paradigm-shifting, and sometimes it's outright crankish fractal nonsense. What does r/math think when they hear "Complex Systems"? Do you guys see anything novel and interesting coming out of the field? What does r/math think when they hear "Complex Systems"?
