Voting in Guelph’s municipal and school board election will be more accessible in 2026 and may include casting ballots online in advance. City council, staff, the chair of the accessibility advisory committee and several delegates discussed options at the committee of the whole meeting on Tuesday. Staff said they began researching accessible voting enhancements in 2022 after the request was made by council in November 2021, and a report was presented by city clerk Stephen O’Brien and deputy city clerk Jennifer Slater. The three recommendations in the report were passed unanimously by Guelph council. They were for free transit service and free parking at Market Parkade on election day, the use of tabulators, and voting by mail and from home as alternative voting methods.
