Module 7: Media - McLuhan and the laws of media

Marshall McLuhan was a prescient Canadian thinker who began as an English literature scholar but came to specialize in what today is called media studies. His work bridges the analog worlds of yesterday and the digital worlds of today. He posited a connection between an expanding information environment and a changing human consciousness. He died before information technologies had become powerful, portable, personal, and ubiquitous, but a great deal of what he predicted has come to pass. We study him still because his thinking on the issues that concern us in today's networked world has not been surpassed, only extended.
