At least from the American perspective, what what was the second half of the 40s like? America, victorious from World War Two. Fresh in the sense that none of our nation was distinctly destroyed from the horrors of war. Massive industrial capacity and tremendous scientific/technological output. German fascism destroyed, Soviet communism spreading. What was the tone, attitude, and feelings of Americans during this five years of the 40s? In what ways was it like the 50s and in what ways was it different? It was a mix of both the best that there could be and the worst. Both happiness and fear. In terms of happiness, there was a lot to be happy about.
