it was right at the start of quarantine when rachel syme, one of my favorite writers, tweeted offhandedly that she takes a bath every day. i can't explain it, but that blew my mind. as someone who had luxuriated in the occasional bath, perhaps two or three times a year, i was struck by the revelation that there was nothing stopping me from taking baths anytime i pleased. i, too, could take a bath every single day of my life, if that was what i wanted.
