Impermanence (Bay Area Musings)
It’s August now. These evenings, when the light dims it seems like the sky leans just a little lavender over the rooftops. I notice how I’m feeling a kind of tenderness for things that don’t last. It shows up in unexpected places, like the bruised-purple petals scattered on the sidewalk after a windy night, or the quick glimmer of someone’s laughter on a street corner before it disappears into the ordinary quiet. It’s easy to mourn what’s no longer here, to feel a little sense of loss in every vanished routine or half-remembered conversation. But I think there’s a strange, subtle beauty in this constant churn. Impermanence makes things precious. The fleetingness of a perfect moment is what gives it color and weight.
