whats a realistic timeline to getting a US SWE job : r/uwaterloo
Unofficial student and alumni-run subreddit for the University of Waterloo community Does it typically take a couple of internships in Canadian big tech (Canadian amazon, AMD, blackberry), or big banks? or does it with less effort? any one have any experience with that? I think it's about luck and the economy. But overall 5th/6th coop could be US. My journey was canadian big bank followed by 3 Canadian start ups. My fifth coop was in the US. I tried my best to get good at coding, apply literally everywhere and I eventually got lucky. One thing I noticed though, is that it's not necessarily about being the best swe. I personally know some UW students who are amazing coders that can build stuff I can't even begin to comprehend, and yet all six of their internships were at pretty much no name Canadian companies. I also personally know a few people who worked consecutive big tech US jobs that aren't the most spectacular coders and admit to just having gotten lucky along the way. any tips f
