[back] [9] The word ἀνάγκη is translated here as "compulsion", not "necessity"; it shares the same root ("force", "constraint") with the word that Epicurus uses for "the necessary desires" (see for instance Principal Doctrine #29 and Vatican Saying #21), but it seems to be used here in the negative sens
