Culture War Roundup for the Week of March 09, 2020 : r/TheMotte

To maintain consistency with the old subreddit, we are trying to corral all heavily culture war posts into one weekly roundup post. 'Culture war' is vaguely defined, but it basically means controversial issues that fall along set tribal lines. Arguments over culture war issues generate a lot of heat and little light, and few deeply entrenched people change their minds regardless of the quality of opposing arguments. A number of widely read community readings deal with Culture War, either by voicing opinions directly or by analysing the state of the discussion more broadly. Optimistically, we might agree that being nice really is worth your time, and so is engaging with people you disagree with. More pessimistically, however, there are a number of dynamics that can lead discussions on Culture War topics to contain more heat than light.
